The hook is used to lift the carrier and turkey into and out of the hot oil. It has a 55,000 BTU propane gas burner assembly and comes with a hose and regulator. A propane tank is not included, but you can use the propane tank typically found with a gas grill.

Tips for Deep Frying a Turkey

  • Always read the manual that comes with a turkey fryer and follow all safety advice.
  • Never deep fry a turkey in your home. It is never safe to do so. Do it outdoors on the grass or in a flat area of dirt in your yard. The oils can splatter and will stain a concrete and deck areas.
  • Always keep a fire extinguisher close by just in case. Spilled oil can be flammable.
  • Never deep fry a frozen turkey. The turkey must be completely thawed in a refrigerator, which takes about four days.
  • Use peanut oil or canola oil for deep frying. Peanut oil is the most popular and adds a nice flavor.
  • To determine the amount of oil to use, place the turkey on the carrier and place it in the empty pot. Fill the pot with water until it it about two inches over the top of the turkey. Remove the turkey and note the water level. That is how far you need to fill the pot with oil before starting the heating process. Never overfill a pot with oil.
  • Wear gloves and an old long sleeve shirt when placing a turkey into or removing it from hot oil. A splatter onto your skin could cause you to drop the turkey into the hot oil, which would cause hot oil to splash.
  • Pre-heat the oil according to the pot manufacturer’s instructions. Cook the turkey in heated oil for about three to three and one-half minutes per pound of turkey.
