The receiver/handset requires two AA batteries and sensor requires two AAA batteries, which are included. The receiver has 8 grilling programs, which include great grilling foods such as beef, hamburger, pork, turkey, lamb, veal, chicken, and fish. The probe and transmitter detects exact temperatures between 32 F and 572 F. The receiver even has an LCD screen that displays four levels of cooking perfection: rare, medium rare, medium, and well done. Just select your choices, insert the probe in the meat, fish or poultry and it will monitor and report back to you. An alarm sounds when the target temperature is reached.
