Six Feet Under was an outstanding five-season television series on HBO. The name refers to your final resting place, which is in part what the series is built around. This is not a horror film, nor is is gross, but it does focus on some unusual topics.

Six Feet Under is about a dysfunctional family that struggles to unite and run the family business, a funeral parlor, after the father is killed in an auto accident. Most members of the family have no idea as to how to run the business, but all are determined to make it work.

Running the business while managing assaults from a ruthless competitor as well as the internal struggles within a family made up of diverse and frequently conflicting personalities tends to make this show interesting. Repeated conversations with the spirits of the father and the newly departed being readied for interment add to the interest level.

In the first two years of the series, each episode focuses not only on the events of the family, but also on the past life of a person whose body is currently being prepared for their final resting place. Have you ever wanted to get an answer to an important question from someone you know or perhaps did not know who passed away suddenly? How would you like to get advice from your departed parents, grandparents or a very close friend? Six Feet Under does an excellent job of portraying what that would be like.

The Six Feet Under series is very entertaining, but like many made-for-television shows, it tends to slow down and get a bit off-track by the third season. The first and second seasons are clearly the best and are very highly recommended. The remaining seasons are still entertaining, but lack many of the interesting conversations with the dearly departed that helped make the first seasons the huge successes that they were.
