The Roomba 560 Vacuuming Robot by iRobot

Posted on January 3, 2007

One of the most innovative carpet cleaning product to ever show up on the market is of course the Roomba vacuuming robot by a robotics specialty company called iRobot. iRobot recently introduced the next generation in vacuuming robots called the Roomba 560. The Roomba is a fully automated robotic vacuum cleaner. It uses a technology that utilizes dozens of sensors to monitor Roomba’s operational environment and surroundings, ensuring that Roomba cleans effectively, intelligently and safely.

Roomba even cleans under furniture, such as chairs, tables and couches, provided that clearance allows this busy little robot to access these areas. The new system uses sensor technology to sense objects. When it does, it slows down to avoid collisions. The technology also allows Roomba to avoid stairs and other drop-offs that could prove harmful to busy little robots.

The Roomba multi-sensor technology excels at sensing walls and other objects and automatically cleans along the edge of walls. It can also sense the dirt level and will make extra passes over dirtier areas. You can easily contain the Roomba vacuuming robot by using special infrared signal emitters, called Virtual Walls, that create an invisible barrier that Roomba will not pass.

Roomba vacuuming robotiRobot has even thought about issues such as family pets and has built safety features into Roomba. If your family dog or cat is sleeping in a room or they curious about Roomba’s activities, on-board bump sensors prevents them from doing anything more than gently touching your pet. Roomba is programmed to automatically stop if it is lifted from the ground, so noses and paws won’t be harmed if a curious dog or cat flips the unit over.

This intuitive little gem can also find its way back to the charging station and will automatically return and plug itself in when the cleaning cycle is finished or if it detects a low charge level.

If you are into home automation or robotics, you gotta get yourself a Roomba.
