Braun Digital Ear Thermometer

Posted on February 15, 2011

You have probably seen digital ear thermometers used in your doctor’s office. They are a quick, easy and precise way to record the core body temperature of a child or adult.

Ear thermometers offer superior results over standard oral or rectal thermometers because they are quick and easy to use. Reading a person’s core body temperature only takes a few seconds, which is a benefit when you have a squirming child.

The Braun Thermoscan Ear Thermometer with ExacTemp technology uses a pre-warmed tip to assure that ear contact with the tip does not distort the temperature reading. Skin temperature measurement with other types of devices can be influenced by several factors that can alter the result. But because the ear shares its blood supply with the brain’s temperature control center, a core body temperature measurement is more accurate when measured in the ear.

Braun Thermoscan Ear ThermometerThe Braun ThermoScan is pretty much foolproof. A light flashes when the probe has not been placed correctly in the ear canal. The unit confirms that the proper temperature has been taken with a light and a beep.

The Thermoscan ear thermometer works by measuring the infrared heat generated by the eardrum and surrounding tissue, which gives an accurate temperature reading in a few seconds. A child’s temperature can even be taken while they are sleeping.

The Thermoscan runs on 2 standard AA batteries, which are included.
