2008 Consumer Electronics Show Gadget Lineup

We attended the 2008 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas with the intent of finding some of the best gadget gifts for 2008. We did find quite a few extraordinarily innovative new products. However, many of the most interesting products turned out to be prototypes or products due to be released at some time in the future. Nonetheless, we are covering many of these products just because they are innovative, interesting and gotta-have-it type gadgets.

One of the most talked about products at the show was Panasonic’s 150 inch plasma television. This is claimed to be the largest plasma television in the world.

How would you like this for your home theater? Well, according to a Panasonic rep I talked to, you can’t have it. They intend to use it for electronic billboards and custom applications. I think that basically means that it is currently so expensive to produce that only Steven Spielberg can afford one. I also asked about the power consumption. My concern is related to the high power consumption typical to plasma displays. I asked, “Does this unit consume more or less power that my air conditioner?” I was told that the system uses a new technology that reduces the power consumption. OK. Either the rep did not know or they are trained to not talk about that issue. Fair enough.

The following are products that we thought are interesting and innovative and got our attention as the best gadgets at the show. Check them out.

The Tank Chair may be the ultimate prize for the mobility challenged.

How about a luxury commode? A Japanese Warm Water Washing Toilet Seat can add a new level of comfort to your life.

For an ultimate geek toy, check out the Remote Controlled Foam Rocket Launcher.

Need to get around a little faster? Chack out the motorized shoes from iShoes.com.

How about an R2-D2 video projector from Nikko? This one looks and acts just like the real droid.
