American Red Cross FR500 Digital Emergency Radio

If you are looking for a very versatile emergency radio with a digital display, take a close look at the American Red Cross FR500 SolarLink. This radio can be powered through a small solar array in the carrying handle, by using the hand-crank dynamo to charge the on-board nickel metal hydride (Ni-MH) batteries, by plugging it in using an optional AC adapter or by using three AA batteries.

The larger FR500 radio has all of features of the more compact American Red Cross FR150 emergency radio, including AM, FM, NOAA weather bands and a built-in flashlight. The FR500 adds a digital display, an emergency beacon and an emergency siren. There is also a digital clock function with an alarm and snooze button, which makes the FR500 work well as a night stand, desk or counter top radio.

This is the perfect emergency radio for your kitchen or family room, where is will always be available when needed. The built-in handle also makes it convenient to carry for picnics or the beach. It weighs in at a little under 3 pounds and the dimensions are 7.75×8.5×2.5 inches.

All seven NOAA weather channels are included, including an alert mode that notifies you when severe weather is approaching. When the NOAA sends out an alert that dangerous weather is approaching, it is time to gather your family and head for shelter.
