Some Top Gadget Picks from the 2009 Consumer Electronics Show
Posted on January 14, 2009The 2009 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) introduced several new products for gadget lovers. Many of the products shown at CES are not yet on the market, but will be available in 2009. CES is the top trade show in the country for introducing new and innovative gadget products.
CES is the annual showcase for consumer electronics products. This year there were 2700 exhibitors. Visitor attendance was down quite a bit from previous years, but that is just a reflection of merchants that are either not attending or sent fewer people to the show this year due to the economic situation. We did, however, find several product that we thought were unique and innovative.
Most of the major HDTV manufacturers were touting new ultra thin flat screen televisions. These new displays are lightweight and can be used in a number of new ways.

The Panasonic TC-P54Z1 thin screen plasma HDTV
Panasonic is introducing the TC-P54Z1, which is a 54 inch ultra thin plasma display that is only 1 inch thick. It uses a wireless receiver that can be placed separate from the HDTV.
Most HDTV manufacturers were showing off new OLED (organic light emitting diode) displays that are only about 3/8 inch thick. The OLED HDTVs will be available this year in a wide range of screen sizes. For the first time, it will be practical to mount HDTVs on a wall without expensive mounting hardware, or simply set one on your desk like a family photo. They will be available in a wide range of screen sizes.
Panasonic, Samsung and Sony were also displaying new 3D technology for home theaters. Unfortunately, both Sony and Sumsung were just testing the water to see if consumers are interested in 3D. Panasonic was the only HDTV manufacturer displaying a product that they said was coming to the market. If you like 3D movies, watch for the Panasonic Full HD Plasma Home Theater System. It was pretty impressive. The 3D technologies are also being adapted to game playing, so gamers will have some new experiences coming their way.

One new product line that is interesting is the Underwater Digital Camera Masks from Liquid Images. Liquid Image offers a range of diving and snorkeling masks with built-in digital cameras that record both still images and video. This is a great way to enhance your underwater sports adventures.
If you are into the ultimate gaming experience, D-Box offers gaming seats with motion simulators that make you feel every bump and vibration as if the game was a real life experience. They also displayed home theater seats that added motion sensation to enhance the viewing experience. They claim to have hundreds or movie titles encoded with the information necessary to add real life motion to your movie viewing.
